Dyersburg, TN - June 6, 2025 - Since spring 2022, Misfit Militia Coffee has been serving up some of Dyer County’s boldest brews—flavorful coffee steeped in strong convictions. Founded by three friends united by their shared faith, political beliefs, and a serious love for coffee, the business has grown steadily over the past three years, building a brand that is as unapologetic as it is unique.
The trio behind the venture—Angeline Czerwien ("Princess Magpul"), Jonathan Symons ("Big Bad Jon"), and Joshua Budnik ("The Mad Chazzler")—may seem like lifelong friends at first glance. In reality, their friendship began in 2019, when Jonathan and Joshua first met at an engineering conference. Jonathan was later introduced to Angeline, Joshua’s longtime friend. The bond among the three quickly deepened and they have since grown together, in life and in friendship.
Jonathan and Joshua instantly clicked, drawn together by a shared background in engineering, a mutual love for their country, and a commitment to faith. Both were working at Nucor Steel Mill at the time, and discussions over freedom, faith, and coffee laid the groundwork for what would become Misfit Militia Coffee.
It all started with a vision from Joshua—to create a business that not only celebrated the art of a good cup of coffee but also served as a platform for their beliefs, particularly in support of constitutional freedoms like the Second Amendment.
“Everything God brings us, He brings us through His glory,” Jonathan shared. “There’s been a lot of headaches, but in the end, it’s worth it.”
The result is a business that pairs handcrafted coffee with bold branding and clever, values-driven marketing. Joshua leads the creative direction, designing all of Misfit Militia’s signature graphics and packaging. Each coffee bag and pod is more than just a the best coffee around—it’s a statement.
A nod to their passion for firearms, Misfit Militia rates their roasts in calibers:
- .22 Caliber – Light roast
- 9mm – Light-medium breakfast roast
- .40 Caliber – Medium roast
- .45 Caliber – Medium-dark roast
- .50 Caliber – Bold dark roast
Jonathan says their light roast mirrors a typical breakfast blend, while the medium options offer a fuller, richer profile. Dark roast lovers will enjoy the robust .50 Caliber, with subtle notes of walnut and dark chocolate in every sip.
In 2023, they expanded their offerings to include iced coffee and flavored syrups, further diversifying their lineup and reaching more customers with a range of preferences.
Today, Misfit Militia products are available at a growing number of local businesses:
- In Dyersburg: A Cut Above and The Way We Were Antiques
- In Newbern: All Things Purty and Rogue Tattoo Studio – Faith Off the Grid
- In Jackson: The ComeUnity Café, Top Gun Arms, and The Range
